“The partnership between Howard Hughes and ABT Incubator is really about giving the creators the freedom to think of their wild idea and give birth to it.” — David Hallberg

The Howard Hughes Corporation welcomed American Ballet Theatre to the Seaport District for a photo shoot in celebration of the launch of ABT Incubator, the creative initiative directed by Principal Dancer David Hallberg.

The Seaport District provided a perfect visual backdrop for photos celebrating the two-week choreographic workshop lab dedicated to rethinking creative boundaries and exploring new movement in dance.

The beauty and history of the Seaport District comes to life in the images taken by photographer Samantha Casolari, who captured Hallberg, along with ABT dancers Zimmi Coker, Virginia Lensi, and Xuelan Lu, as they displayed their creative energy and talent along the cobblestones, at Pier 17, and inside 10 Corso Como.

“It has always been my vision to establish a process-oriented hub to explore the directions ballet can forge now and in the future,” said Hallberg. “It’s so exciting to be down here, there’s such an energy, and some of the best views in Manhattan.”

American Ballet Theatre has always provided a door into the creation of new choreography and ABT Incubator offers artists the time and resources to experiment, develop and create. Lead support for ABT Incubator has been generously provided by The Howard Hughes Corporation.

“Arts and culture are an integral part of the revitalization of the Seaport District,” said Saul Scherl, President of the New York Tri-State Region for The Howard Hughes Corporation. “We are creating unique cultural experiences and establishing Lower Manhattan as our city’s new creative hub—we’re excited to partner with ABT Incubator and inspire them to explore their own creative boundaries here at the Seaport.”
