The Fulton by Jean-Georges is Now Open at Pier 17
Get ready for a summer full of fresh seafood and ridiculously good water views— right here in Lower Manhattan. The Fulton by Jean-Georges Vongerichten is now open at Pier 17, and the new restaurant is set to become a downtown favorite, with a setting on the East River and jaw-dropping views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.
This is the first time the world-renowned chef has opened a seafood restaurant, and the venture is somewhat of a homecoming, bringing Vongerichten back to the Seaport District, a part of New York that he loved when he first visited the neighborhood’s former Fulton Fish Market more than 30 years ago.
“I am going back to the place where I learned about fresh fish,” Vongerichten explained to Eater New York.
“This place is my homage to that market.”
What’s on the Menu?
That idea of the day’s catch and the bounty of the fish markets anchors the culinary approach at The Fulton. The menu showcases wild-caught seafood from the East Coast, starting with an elegant raw bar serving oysters, clams, sea urchin and a variety of crudos. The menu will be updated seasonally—for the opening in May, it includes appetizers like Crispy Soft Shell Crabs, Bouchot Mussels steamed in Lemongrass and Thai basil, and a refreshing Fritto Misto Salad. Mains include a Tagliatelle with Cockles and King Crab and Spring Pea Risotto, while fresh vegetable sides complement the large selection of simply prepared fish entrees, from Salmon Crusted with Spices and Maine Lobster to a Whole Black Sea Bass for Two.
A Table with a View
The Fulton can’t help but impress, with stylish interiors by Yabu Pushelberg and soaring glass walls that frame views of the city — with the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges front and center. Whether you choose a stylish booth for two, a large table for your group, or a spot on the breezy patio, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to the seaside. In Manhattan, this is the closest you can get to the ocean—with its location on Pier 17, The Fulton sits out on the East River, surrounding you with water views from every angle.
Playful nods to New York’s nautical history are peppered throughout the space, which feels chic and modern—ideal for everything from date nights and client meetings to casual cocktails at the raw bar with friends.
The Fulton is the first of Pier 17’s lineup of new culinary outposts to open in 2019, and will soon be joined by restaurants from other celebrated chefs including David Chang, Helene Henderson and Andrew Carmellini.
The Fulton will be open for dinner to start, followed by lunch and weekend brunch. Reservations can be made via Resy.
